Bully - Larry Clark's True Story of High School Revenge

Loosely based on a true story set in 1993, the book was written in 1998, and the movie came out in 2001. As most of you know, Larry Clark movies often feature delinquent youths as the main characters, and these ones are the worst, and I mean that in a narratively sound manner. The acting in this movie is wonderful, and so is the cast. There are a lot of recognizable names, and it's all about the performances.

Brad Renfro is Marty, the surfer stoner who is often abused by his "best friend" Bobby, played by Nick Stahl as a closet homosexual who uses Marty as a punching bag for his sexually frustrated insecurities.

Rachel Miner plays Lisa, Marty's new girlfriend who is clearly fucked in the head. She starts the whole scheme and even gets off to the idea of murdering somebody.

Bijou Phillips plays her kinky friend Ali, an irresponsible young woman who lets her parents raise her baby son while she goes off to bang all sorts of young guys, such as Donny, played by Michael Pitt as the sexy and dumb stoner dude who gets reeled into this for no other reason than his girlfriend asking him to help.

Kelli Garner plays Heather, another damaged youth who joins in for the fuck of it. Daniel Franzese (who is in a handful of my favorite movies) plays Lisa's big brother Derek who reluctantly gets involved in his sister's defense.

And finally, we have that McLovin looking motherfucker from "Kids" Leo Fitzpatrick, who plays another guy named Derek, who claims to be a hitman. Larry Clark himself plays this Derek's dad, and on a funny side note, some kid in that family looks like a young Ron Perlman, almost hilariously so.

The rebelious teenage recklessness never ends. This movie has sex, drug use, masturbation, homo lovin', rape, and brutality. It's raw, and these characters are real. I really love movies like this. Movies that are dark character studies of damaged young minds pushed into dire circumstances.

At the end, it tells you what fate had fallen upon our protagonistsantagonists, and you can spoil that for yourselves here:

Damn good movie. I've been meaning to watch more Larry Clark movies for years now, as I've only see "Kids" and "Ken Park", but I loved all of them. They're a little hard to come by, but I need to find them.
