The Crazies remake (2010)
I have been watching this kind of a lot, lately. Any thoughts on it? I think it's one of the better remakes of recent(-ish) years.
For one thing Timothy Olyphant can do no wrong. I can't think of anything I've seen him in where I had any semblance of a problem with his performance. He plays a pretty cool character here, a sheriff who has faith in his fellow man to the point where it almost gets him killed, several times. But, the fact that he believes in others, and causes them to do the right thing just because he has so much faith in them, is pretty cool to watch.
The British actor Joe Anderson plays his deputy Russell... I wonder if it is fun for people from other countries to play rural American characters... this character starts out cool, goes insane, but ends up heroic... but he just reminds me of the Seann William Scott character in Old School too much, so I have to smile every time I see him, even when he's in the tragic part of his character arc. But, I am just rambling here, I like Joe Anderson and he does a great job here. I also liked him in The Ruins, where he played the German dude who had his legs eaten by the vines.
Radha Mitchell is cool too... I guess she is why random scenes made me think of Silent Hill. The guy dragging the pitchfork made me think of Resident Evil, by the way, when they first encounter the zombies and that one guy is dragging a heavy miner's pick-like instrument that he had used to try to smash a window in a lab, when he was still alive. Sorry, this paragraph makes no sense.
Basically, I have respect for this movie. They brought the idea into the 21st century... they did a little random homage to RotLD by calling the biological weapon "trixie" (close enough to trioxin for you?)... certain scenes were really done very well, like the car wash, and also when Radha M and Danielle Panamaker (who also did a solid job) and tied up on tables in that improvised pseudo-MASH unit. That whole scene was just really well done, I thought, the tension built and built until I went completely insane. Sadly, I'm completely insane now, as a result of watching that scene. Oh well.
Anyway... great movie, IMHO. Any thoughts?
