Bloody Murder 2 - Early-2000s slasher sequel
I watched the first one, so why not? Again, this is DTV slasher shit from a relatively bad era for slasher flicks, so you have to go in with a few reservations. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it for what it is, though. Right?
As the subtitle suggests, the movie is set when the counselors are closing the camp up for the end of summer. They're still up to their usual antics, and decide to play a game of Bloody Murder. This is a vague sequel to the previous film's events, which left off on a kind of weird ending, where our main girl's brother disappeared.
This event was said to have happened "5 years ago", even though the movie is made only 3 years later. I guess "5" years makes for a better anniversary. Even the events of Friday the 13th part 2 were set 5 years after the first, despite that movie coming out only 1 year later. Who cares though, right? It's all about people getting killed, and the stories for these kinds of movies are never that great to begin with. The killers always have stupid and/or contrived motives, so we'll move past it.
The kills are more gnarly this time around. The killer is more sadistic, but for some reason, the kills only get more generic as the film goes on. Whereas the first film had a lot of scenes with the killer during the day time (which was kinda cool, actually), this one is mostly at night, and the shitty youtube quality makes it hard to make out what's going on sometimes, but it still had it's charm. In a way... a very small and vague way... some of the scenes kind of reminded of Madman for some reason. Maybe the lighting? That's always a good thing, because Madman was a fantastic slasher flick.
Our primary villain, which we're all left to assume is Trevor Moorhouse, is a bit different this time around. He's covered all the way in a black outfit with overalls and a new mask. That's right... he doesn't even have the hockey mask like on the cover of the movie. This just tells you that the distributors sometimes don't watch the movies they distribute, and that's always a sign that you're in for a great horror movie. đ So yeah, he wears a mask that looks more like Bukethead, only without the KFC bucket.
Of course, you also have Tiffany Shepis in this movie, showing her tits a lot. I feel that she could be a decent actress if given the right material, but she tends to get stuck in a lot of these lesser roles, and her talent often goes to waste, it seems.
Like the first film had a character named Jason, this one has a character named Angela. Also like the first film had a theme of technology, where it used emails/messaging, this high-tech sequel utilizes... pagers.
As far as shitty DTV horror sequels go, it's not so bad. Just about on par with the first movie, which obviously isn't saying much, but you could do a lot worse. If I can find the third film "The Graveyard", I'll watch it.
