Horror draft 2019 Battle overview

Well I included Der and Basic which was the simplest solution. There is going to be a final with 3 people.

I used a randomizer and it turned out this result:

BasicBallzBoxDerBambiGymnoZnepsfpxmarkusTommixSnowyJohan
So this gives

Battle 1: Basic vs Ballz
Battle 2: Box vs Der
Battle 3: Bambi vs Gymno
Battle 4: Znep vs sfpx
Battle 5: markus vs Tommix
Battle 6: Snowy vs Johan

When your own battle is on you can't vote even not for your opponent.

Any restroom confessions?

I never put down
the toilet seat to take a dump.

Most restrooms don't have those paper thingys to put on top of the seat, and I'd be embarrassed to use one.

The bottom line is that I refuse to sit where another man's ass has been sitting. I'd rather take a chance of sitting on piss.

I can always wipe piss off, I can't wipe off the feeling of having sat on another man's ass.
True story, ladies and gentlemen.

So I showed my 7 year old son Alien and Aliens..

And he was not fazed or disturbed by any of it, and that includes the John Hurt chest burster scene which he found fascinating. It got me to thinking what I should show him next. Jaws was his first horror movie but he bawled at the end of that because he wanted the shark to live. So anything which involves the death of an animal is probably a no-no (that discounts The Thing then).. He's also seen Gremlins. I guess Predator, The Terminator and T2 would be good ones. Maybe Poltergeist for his first ghost movie, as presumably the gore scene will not disturb him. It's funny because the violence doesn't worry me so much, but I have to cough loudly when I know an F bomb is coming or cover his eyes during a slightly "intimate" scene.

It also got me to wondering what age were you when you saw your first horror (or anything that a young kid should not watch) movie and what was it? Do you remember how it made you feel? Scared? Disturbed? Fascinated? I was quite a bit older when I saw my first "proper" horror movie, which was either Child's Play 3 or Day of the Dead at about the about of 11 or 12. I don't remember exactly. The first movie to truly disturb me though was Robocop, which I saw at about 12-13.

My Favorite 100 Horror Movies

I haven't updated this list in a couple of years, and I have seen a lot since then. I felt it was a nice time to do this A few people do ask about my taste, so here it is, it has a mixture of old and new, foreign language, classics and obscure stuff.

The Irishman - Scorsese Strikes Again!

I've been putting it off due to its excessive runtime, but I didn't have to go to work today, so I had no excuse.

Scorsese is all about those organized crime biopics, and he does 'em well. This is all about Hoffa (Pacino) and his right-hand man Frank (De Niro), but we've also got Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel in a bit part.

Most Scorsese movies are the same, and in that respect, this movie is Goodfellas Part 3. Ain't nothing wrong with that considering Scorsese movies never get boring. He keeps you engaged with the constant worry that someone is going to get whacked, or by detailing the violent repercussions that come to you if you don't take the mob seriously. This is a lot of that.

One interesting thing to note is that it spans a good many years, so you'll see your core three actors made up to look younger. If it was CGI to de-age them, it was done well. If it was make up, it was done well. Some of them still look pretty old either way though, but then there's a point toward the end when they look older than ever.

Scorsese is a boss. Can't wait for Goodfellas 4.

Let's get controversial!

Okay, lets get straight down to it, what horror remakes do you think were better, or at the very least equal to the original ?

Don't worry you won't be burned at the stake for your opinions!!

Here are some remakes that I thought were better, or even decent:

Let the Right One In (2008) (8) V Let Me In (2010) (8) - The English language remake was superb in my opinion. Captured the atmosphere of the original perfectly.

The Woman in Black (1989) (8) V The Woman in Black (2012) (8) - The remake delivers! Both creepy films.

Pet Sematary (1989) (8) V Pet Sematary (2019) (8) - One of the most controversial entries on my list! This is a solid of the original movie, it seeps and drips with gritty bleakness.

The Thing from Another World (1951) (8) V The Thing (1982) (8) - Obvious entry, both brilliant!

Night of the Living Dead (1968) (8) V Night of the Living Dead (1990) (7) - The original is king, but the remake is very decent.

The Fly (1958) (8) V The Fly (1986) (8) - Another obvious choice, both classics, remake shades it for the gore!

Ringu (1998) (8) V The Ring (2002) (7) - The original is superb. The remake was good too. The remake has a 7.1 rating on IMDb after all.

Fright Night (1985) (7) V Fright Night (2011) (7) - Both very entertaining, the remake was much better than expected.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) (5) V Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) (7) - The remake here is superior. The original never did it for me, oddly enough.

REC (2007) (8) V Quarantine (2008) (7) - Quarantine not quite as strong as the original, but still very good.

The Blob (1958) (6) V The Blob (1988) (7) - Gore prevails!

Maniac (1980) (6) V Maniac (2012) (7) - A Remake that exceeds the original in every way.

Suspiria (1977) (9) V Suspiria (2018) (7) - Not as good as the original but very good.

The Evil Dead (1981) (9) V Evil Dead (2013) (6.5) - No where near as good as the original but I liked its own take of the story.

What remakes did you think were as good or better than the original ?
