Born in 1791, filmed in 1905?!?

I have no idea if this is actually true, of course, but if you Google around you can find the same info I found. This old woman was the grandmother of two early filmmakers who were born in the 1870's and 1880's, Yanaki and Milton Manaki. They lived in the Ottoman Empire, in an area that is Macedonia today. Here, this is their grandmother weaving. Even if she wasn't born in 1791, she couldn't have been born later than the early 19th century.

This is about the Manaki brothers:

If you come up with any unusual search strategy that turns up some cool info, please share it!

Survey: Do you have any pets?

image Yeah, a random-ass question, but I want to see if we have any animal-lovers on this site. I have a cat whom I call by a billion different names, such as Kentucky Johnson, Johnny Cakes, Johnson Cat, Jiminy Cakes, Johan Cokes, and all sorts of stupid variations of that. Then I have a dog named Dexter (named after the show), aka Doctor Dexter, M.D.

I don't use my gallery for anything worthwhile, but you can see more pics of these dumb, lovable animals in my gallery: https://trashepics.com/snap/?user=1

Who has pets?

Wetlands (2013)

image
I've seen a lot of gross out comedies, but Wetlands is something all its own. Wetlands is a German comedy, drama directed by David Wnendt, and damn is it weird!

The plot is as follows an unhygienic woman named Helen who has strange views on sex and hygiene wants her divorced parents to reunite. This is only the beginning of Helen's issues because Helen has also been hospitalized due to cutting a hemorrhoid when she attempted to shave her ass crack... Helen has always been plagued with hemorrhoids. It's her lot in life to bear I suppose.

Helen is not only anti hygiene, she also has some very odd hobbies. One being testing out which types of vegetables make for the best dildos, ( according to Helen it's carrots) and the other being jacking off guys, and using their dried jizz as chewing gum. I suppose I should also mention she has a fetish for public toilets. The dirtier the better! Helen, although gross, has an oddly hot charm to her. I love her free spirited attitude. image

There is so much about this movie that is messed up, and I found myself gagging a time or two, but this is also a blast of a movie to watch. There wasn't a single time I was bored, and I'll definitely be watching it again. So, if you are in the mood for a fun gross out comedy then give Wetlands a try. 7/10

eBooks, and self-publishing

About a year ago, I started writing a book. A dirty soap, as I call it, chronicling the misadventures of the local delinquent cheerleaders in a crappy hick town, and the lame male protagonist that longs for them. Last month, I finished it. It's a whopping less-than 200 page male fantasy about disco, drugs, and delusional deadbeats. If that doesn't reel you in, GTFO.

Now for anyone who knows me, I fucking suck. I haven't written anything good in a looooong time, but I wrote this yarn and I want to put it online. I want to self-publish it on Amazon (though I have no idea how that works yet), and since I suck so badly, I only plan on charging $1 for it. That way, it might even seem like a value.

Do any of you read eBooks? Have you ever written a book? And how much would you charge for it? What would you write about?

Who is the hot blonde...

...in the Season 3 episode of the Love Boat who gets involved with Steve Kanaly's character in the last ten minutes or so? No women will date him because he wants them to sign a paper before they date. This lady doesn't mind because she wants him to sign the same kind of agreement. She's not credited, and I wondered if she ever appeared in anything else. She's one of the best looking blondes I've ever seen.

Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare

Anyone enjoy this obscure movie based on Yokai Monsters of Japanese folklore?

It has two follow up movies (100 monsters) and another one. There is also a more recent but unrelated Yokai War movie.

Saw VIII, aka "Jigsaw"

What are your thoughts on this upcoming sequel?

Personally, I hate the Saw movies. They're kinda shit, if you ask me. Convoluted shit, in which our antagonist has way too many contingencies in order, to the point where it gets preposterous, and fast. After the third movie, Jigsaw DIES, yet he had so much going for him that he had 4 more movies planned. FIVE, if you count this new movie.

Normally, I wouldn't see this movie, but since the Spierig brothers are doing it, I'll have to see this damn movie. They directed Predestination (2014), which was probably one of the best movies I've seen this decade, so I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt. That movie was fucking GREAT.

THOUGHTS?

11.22.63 + other current Stephen King works

I'm watching "11.22.63", starring James Franco as a time-traveler who has to prevent the assassination of JFK. It's pretty interesting so far. It's mostly a 60s period piece, but it's top notch, exploiting some civil rights stuff at the time, but still being an interesting thriller.

Gotta love that Stephen King is still relevant. Theaters here have not only Dark Tower, but now "IT", which has had surprisingly high hype. I haven't even seen the trailer for IT, but it's sold out at my theater, and people are even going as far to leave red balloons near sewer openings. Pretty classy, if you ask me! But then again, what do I know? emoticon

STEPHEN KING rocks.

Dead Zone/Dreamscape connection?

If you happen to have a copy of The Dead Zone, or if your local library has a copy, you might find this interesting.

I was just re-reading The Dead Zone this weekend, and in Chapter 21, Section 3 (each chapter is subdivided into numbered sections), there are a few paragraphs that make me think of the movie Dreamscape. They are on page 317, in my edition. They describe Johnny Smith's visions of the world after Greg Stillson is elected, which is a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The book is a little different from the movie, it doesn't have that scene where he's standing there with that other senior government guy and they press The Button together. In the book, Johnny foresees Stillson getting sworn in by a very scared-looking elderly Justice of the Supreme Court, and then he sees a desolate wasteland with "twisted metal, fused glass, and scorched earth." Also, there is the image of a single headlight, in a tunnel... it reminds me of the president's nightmare in Dreamscape, where he envisions the world after a nuclear war, which he has caused. In Dreamscape, the president is riding on a train, and he sees the horrifying ruined world all around him... I think the train even goes into a tunnel. The image of a tunnel is presented on page 317 in Dead Zone, and although it doesn't specify a train, a train is suggested by the image of a single onrushing headlight. Aha, Stephen King mentions a "black engine of doom"... could be a train, or not... judgement call.

Anyway, I wonder if that passage was one of the inspirations for Dreamscape? They made it the president's nightmare, not a psychic's vision, and they fooled around a little with the idea of the train, but doesn't it seem like there could be a connection?

Had to share.
