Favorite Horror Movie theme music

Out of nowhere, I just caught myself whistling the Last Cannibal World theme.



I also love the Cannibal Holocaust theme.

The Friday the 13th game is releasing new content, and for some reason, they chose the Suspiria theme for the video. Can't wait to find out what "Paranoia Mode" is.



I also love the Madman theme, and I think that movie is perfect.



Damn modern movies... I can't think of ONE of them that has memorable theme music! Prove me wrong, people.

Umberto Lezni has died

Italian director Umberto Lenzi has died. In the early days of VHS, Lenzi became known in the U.S. primarily for some of his horror movies around that same period--MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY (CANNIBAL FEROX), EATEN ALIVE, NIGHTMARE CITY, etc.--though most of them are far from his best work. Lenzi actually worked in every conceivable genre over the years--Westerns, Eurospy pictures, action pictures, gialli, war movies, peplums, crime films, even made a Robin Hood movie once (though I've never seen it). He was 85.

Has anyone seen Dark Tower, but one from 1989?

I just found it on IMDb, but never heard of it. Looks really interesting and fun! It has only 300 votes with 4.1/10 rating, but the movie poster looks cool though.

1st Annual TE October Challenge Progress Thread



**I was waiting on Matheny to reclaim her place as host, but doesn't look like that's going to happen. So, here goes...

Welcome to the 2017 October Challenge. And for many of us, this is the first one away from the IMDb Horror board, which means it's no longer required to save your progress. So, fuck that no life having little cocksucker that used to make it necessary to delete the OP. Seriously. Kill yourself, whoever you were.

So, the rules, as I remember. To complete this challenge, one must watch at least 31 Horror films in the month of October. At least 16 of which shall be first time viewings. All are welcome to watch and list as many as possible.

No TV shows, no Documentaries. Horror films only.

If you're not positive as to whether or not a movie is of the Horror genre, just use your own judgement. If you feel like there's a little Horror in there, then it counts.

I'm gonna go with 45 minutes minimum for a movie to count.

Challenge begins when October begins, and ends with October ends.

No, wait! if I remember correctly, the challenge usually runs until 6 AM November 1st. So, for anyone wanting to have an all night Halloween marathon, there ya go!

With a shrimp cocktail, or not?

OK, here's a hypothetical situation for you. Let's say someone is being tortured, and they are about to ask you to intercede on their behalf. Is it better to say no A.)while eating a shrimp cocktail, or B.)while not eating a shrimp cocktail? In this scene, Ming the Merciless makes a case for option A:

Anyone else binge it already? If so, what did you think?

I thought it was a very worthy follow up to the first season and even better in certain respects. They did a great job of further developing the characters from the first season (El especially) as well as introducing some memorable new characters. Paul Reiser and Sean Astin were perfect in their roles as Dr. Owens and Bob respectively. Also, it was super depressing that Bob died such a gruesome death as well considering his character was so nice and likeable. There were some surprisingly great emotional moments throughout the season as well, especially in the final episode. And what about that Carpenter-esque music once again!?!?

2016

I was watching Evil Dead 2013 the other day...

The movie isn't terrible, but it's definitely not perfect. My main issues are the same ones I had with my first viewing of it.

The intro scene is entirely unnecessary. I wish more horror movies wouldn't jump at the chance of showing you right away that they're a horror movie by starting off with a bang. The original didn't do that, but this one shows you right away that there are blood-thirsty demons possessing people, burning away in obvious CGI.

And then... of course... the movie jumps to the scenic drive to the cabin, which is where the movie should have started. It felt like it was trying to emulate The Shining at that point, with the music and whatnot, but The Shining wasn't stupid enough to start the movie with random, pointless bloodshed.

I don't know why, but it always bothers me when a horror movie demeans itself by trying to jump into the action without any buildup, just to assure the impatient fans that there will be blood. I watch that scene and roll my eyes. Others might roll they're eyes and turn it off, because they know the movie is already going in a dumb direction. If you take the time to build it up more, without showing your main threat right at the start... I think it can keep you invested longer. Again, I don't know why this particular movie's shitty intro bothers me so much, but I feel like it holds the movie back.

If I could make a better cut of the movie, I'd cut that scene entirely, as well as all the shots of ghosts that look like they're straight out of a Japanese horror like The Ring. Get rid of all that shit, because it's showing too much (just like the damn Amityville Horror remake). In the original Evil Dead, Sheryl was running from the evil in the woods and came to a stop to see if it was still following her. Then, you only see the tree come crashing down. You don't see some Samara-looking looking bitch pushing it down.

It all goes with the idea that less is more, and they should've cut out some of those scenes to make the movie better. That's all I'm saying.


Also, Lou Taylor Pucci takes one hell of a beating in that movie. 😄
