2025: A Yearful of Westerns
Hey legends... For no reason whatsoever, I've decided that '25 is gonna be the year that I catch up on all the great westerns I've neglected and rewatch all the great ones I haven't. Old Westerns, New Westerns, Spaghetti Westerns, Paella Westerns, Zapata Westerns... Good ones, shit ones, whatever...
My own goal is for 50-60 Westerns in 2025; each one reviewed here in some loose way. Maybe some in-depth analysis, maybe just some random thoughts, maybe just me making dirty jokes and calling you all losers. Who knows what awaits?? I'm happy to have this thread be a Western dump for everyone else. Reviews, suggestions, insults, dick pics, etc. Join in as much or as little as you want. All comments welcome.
Will this be a glorious celebration of perhaps the most grandiose cinematic genre of all? Or just me talking absolute nonsense? Golly, I can't wait to find out. It's gonna be the best year evah! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Final Destination: Bloodlines
You know how these movies play out. This one is the same ol' concept, but it's somehow better. A woman has a premonition of a tower collapse in the 60s or whenever, and she escapes her fate. Years later, death is catching up to her descendants to finish what it tried to start with her.
The family angle works well with skepticism and the eventual realization that it's not just coincidence. They work together, fail together, and we're given some gnarly scenes and a few fake-outs to keep you guessing. Some are so fucked, you can't help but laugh.
Tony Todd's character is only a small role, but he's got a nice backstory in there. You can tell he was sick and skinny as hell in this, as his character admits he has cancer and he's on his way out. It was a very self-aware scene and honestly, it broke my heart. God bless Tony Todd, and may he rest in peace.
I can probably say this is the best entry in the series. Not that it ever had a high bar to live up to. I'm pretty sure all these movies end the same way, but fuck it. I still enjoyed it.

Texas Frightmare 2025
I did Saturday only with @Der and my pal Justin. Got in the doors pretty quickly and went straight to the main room. There were plenty of people I wanted to meet, but it all depends on the lines and prices.
First stop was Bill Duke. He's known for playing Mac from Predator, Cook from Commando, and Trask from X-Men 3 (who was later recast as a white midget for Days of Future Past). He's getting up there in age, but he seemed in good spirits. I told him I enjoyed a couple of crime flicks he directed (Deep Cover 1992, Hoodlum 1997). $60 for the autograph, +$20 for the picture.

Next stop was Adam Marcus, who wrote/directed Jason Goes to Hell and wrote Texas Chainsaw 2013. Cool guy, very enthused, no line. He told me about an upcoming JGtH doc he made, how his original chainsaw script was much higher budget and included Leatherface chainsawing through a 3D cattle stampede. I told him I thought both flicks were underrated, because those movies are a blast. I also asked him about his Freddy cameo at the end and he had in fact written his own idea of what he wanted that to be about, but Wes coming back for New Nightmare put his idea on the backburner. $40 for autograph and pic.

After that, I went into Dana DeLerenzo's line, aka Kelly from Ash vs. Evil Dead. She was a highlight. So full of energy, and still smokin' hot. I told her AvED was the greatest show ever, we talked briefly about Ren & Stimpy (another person earlier line had brought it up and she went on to sing the Rocko's Modern Life theme song), and I asked her about how the Workaholics guys were. She had a bit part in an episode, and she had a hard time maintaining a straight face with them. It was that little cameo that had also helped lead her to the Evil Dead role, which is fucking cool. No pictures with her, but Logan managed to sneak a good shot of her through the black curtain behind her where the line wrapped around, and I may post that later. $50 for the autograph. Awesome lady.
Her line wasn't horribly long, but she was very talkative, so it took a while to get through it. I went into Ray Santiago's line right after. He playedPedro Pablo from Ash vs. Evil Dead. I told him I loved the GhostBeaters. I should have told him that his hair stole the show. I also asked if he was involved in the Evil Dead cartoon they were working on a while back, and if that's even a thing anymore. He said he didn't know if he was, but I should go to the panel and ask. Those panels are hard to get into, though. $50 for the autograph. I think the actor might be gay. He's also still ripped.
Bruce was there somewhere, but I didn't even catch a glimpse of him. I probably should have met more of the Evil Dead 1 team. They were only $40, but I can't blow all my money. Pablo & Kelly were the priorities.
The last person we met was Sybil Danning. Justin is a big fan of The Howling II apparently, so he was anxious to shill out $60 for the autograph and $20 for the picture. She was nice, her signature was some beautiful calligraphy, and I asked her about Andy Sidaris, since she worked with him on Malibu Express. She said he was such a nice guy, and he used to invite people over to eat and hang out, and that she really misses him. He directed a lot of trash epics.

That's the extent of my celebrity encounters. Justin wanted to meet Art the Clown, but his line was super long since he's relevant. I almost wanted to meet Melissa Barrera from Scream 5 & 6, but I'd already spent enough money. I managed to find a rare T2 NECA figure I've been eying for months, too.
We wanted to meet Linda Blair, but she was one of those high-profile guests in another floor that you needed a virtual ticket to meet, so pass on that. Another fun adventure in Iriving Convention center. Always looking forward to the next one.

The Greatest Assholes
Not literal assholes mind you, but jerks in film and tv. Some people are so good at playing a jerk, you wonder if they're even acting. Who are some good ones?
Michael Ironside, William Atherton, Christopher McDonald, Michael Rooker, Steven Seagal (asshole in real life), Kurtwood Smith.
I know there are plenty more...

Thunderbolts (2025)
A movie about C-list characters forced to work as a team against a superman rip-off. I wasn't thrilled about the idea when it was first announced, but my interest began to grow over time and the movie was actually pretty decent.
Florence Pugh is pretty good as Yelena. Even when playing a cold hard assassin, she has a lot more personality than Scarlett Johansson, who was always a huge bore to me. Wyatt Russell returns as his "dime-store" Captain America, doing way better than he did in that piece of crap Falcon and Winter Soldier show. David Harbour returns as the Red Guardian, the comic relief Russian version of Captain America, but he's likeable in most of his roles. Lewis Pullman plays Bob/Sentry/Void, and is also pretty good. It's always weird when these seemingly twinky actors take off their shirts and reveal a buff physique.
Sebastian Stan returns as the Winter Soldier, another boring character that Marvel likes to shove down our throats. But in this movie, he's actually... still pretty boring. What's truly ridiculous is that this brainwashed 100-year-old murderer is now a congressman? Well... that's actually pretty realistic now that I think about it.
This movie also features a lot of misdirection in its marketing, prominently featuring a certain character in the promotion that's barely in the movie at all, but it's no real loss considering that character was lame as hell and far from the comic origins.
An entertaining flick, a step in the right direction for Marvel, and featuring a pretty good ending, though the post-credits scenes everybody raves about aren't worth the hype.

Why did America save tiktok?!
Why was this a priority? Save the replaceable platform so underage girls can continue to shake their booties to try to get out of having real jobs?
