Movie Previews

As I settle on watching "Visiting Hours" for some trash points, I found myself more overall invested in the trailers. I have the old Anchor Bay disc and they put a few of their trailers before the movie, and it brings be back to an era of low tech and fond familiarity.



The first trailer is The Anniversary (1968), which is a Hammer... comedy? With Bette Davis in a mansion of disgruntedl family members!

The Entity (1982) is a short trailer about a pro-family woman... and her fight with a sex demon!

Quicksilver Highway (1997) is a movie that I've seen, and I think it's rather stupid. It may have a few familiar faces in it, but the stories are just so dumb, I find it hard to accept that this is a real movie.

Ghost in the Machine (1993) Now I remember watching (some of) this on tv as a kid. I remember some ultra-90s kid going into a VR game and some weird shit happening to him. Also has Chris Mulkey in it.

Bad Dreams (1988) has been on my watchlist for a while now. Just can't seem to get a hold of it. Richard Lynch is in it as some burnt cult apparition haunting a girl for some reason or another.



The trailers were better than the movie itself. Visiting Hours is underwhelming and hardly graphic. I think the movie was inappropriately lumped in with the other evil movies without the accusers even seeing the movie. It's pretty tame. I don't see anything particularly nasty about it, but hey... at least William Shattner was in a video nasty, and that's good enough.

Star Wars Episode IX

I wont get into a big rant because I'm not a super nerd, but goddamn... this movie was so much better than the last one. I was actually very satisfied with how this one played out. I liked the arcs, the twists, the callbacks, all of it.

Now with that said, I hope they don't fuck it up by adding more to this series. I know they want to do spin-offs, which I'm sure is inevitable, but leave this part of the series alone, considering most of the core cast is killed off or dead.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)



I watched this last night. It was nothing special, just your typical run-of-the-mill horror movie. It was better than the original, but that's not saying much, as that one was garbage. This one is just less garbage. I liked the retro feel to it; a throwback to the 70s. The acting was good, but there were some cringe worthy performances as well. The pacing was slow. I felt bored at some parts. The jump scares worked for the most part but the overall movie wasn't scary. It did have some creepy moments but nothing to write home about. It was better than the original, but that's not saying much, as that one was garbage. This one is just less garbage. 4/10

Jeepers Creepers 3, and Moby Dick

I was just wondering if there could be a connection between those two stories, the movie JC3 and the novel MD. The black sheriff dude is named Tashtego, which is an extremely unusual name. When I google it, most of the hits have something to do with the character from Moby Dick, or things that might be derived from that character. Also, his buddy, the white sheriff, is named Tubbs. This is reaching, but I wonder if Tubbs is an anagram for Stubb, the second mate from MD? I'm almost sure there has to be some connection with the Tashtego name... I'm much less sure about Tubbs, but it's possible.

A couple of characters in JC3 actually did seem a little like Captain Ahab. It is possible that the writers were trying to make some kind of statement here. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Browser Rant

If I'm about to go on a rant about browsers, then you know I've got nothing better to do with my life!

I saw that Edge is at version 80 something, so I updated my 40 something version and all those little changes are blowing my mind. Standard features are actually working? What?! I know I should be on top of this stuff already, but you should never underestimate my laziness to catch up with modern times!

As a web programmer, I love when my code is actually supported by a browser. Certain versions of certain browsers will ignore code entirely, but when it becomes standardized, I can actually make something functional. While I can appreciate the compatibility aspect of using older browser versions, I prefer to use the new and supported features of newer ones because I get more bang for my buck and I don't have to worry about all that backwards-compatibility bullshit. Polyfills are a bitch.


Users might think I've been picking my butt for a while as nothing new has come about in these last few minutes, but I've been developing a few cool features. Pointless, but cool. I've been learning a lot of new crud that I can implement in TE, and if you know me by now, then you know that I have the most fun when I use my favorite movies as the basis for things. I'm currently in RoboCop/Terminator mode on my new endeavor, which some of you may have previewed already in some of the TE themes, but I'm onto some retro-tech shennanigans for TE. You'll see them implemented soon.

I have been working on various projects, but my mind wanders and I never get one thing done before I'm onto another thing. Building TE has been a crazy experience. I build and update modules left and right, and while most people don't notice the little tiny details I rack my brain thinking about, I think/hope that most of the core userbase here can appreciate to some extent. Because remember people: It's all for you Damien!

JCVD in a Trash Can

Not exactly Horror, but MONSTERS

Not sure where to post this, it's just sort of interesting. This guy apparently tracked down the origin of some of the more obscure monsters in the Monster Manual, in Dungeons and Dragons. Like, the owlbear, the rust monster, and the bulette. Apparently they got started as cheapo little rubber and plastic toy monsters, made by some company in Hong Kong for little kids back in the early 70's. I think it is interesting that the company apparently just made up their own freaky little monsters, they gave their creative guys free rein to just have some fun and just go wild. I think in more modern times, there would probably be pressure to just make little toy versions of recognized, pre-copyrighted franchise monsters that are already very popular... Anyway, the Hong Kong company monsters just came all together in groups of ten or fifteen, in plastic bags, and they didn't even name the monsters. Then, it sounds like when Dungeons and Dragons was getting started, they were looking for new kinds of monsters they could stick in the games, and somebody literally just went to the 70's equivalent of the toy aisle in a modern CVS store, bought a bag of rubber and plastic monsters, took it home and made up background stories, traits, hit points, etc for all the monsters. If anyone here ever went through a D+D phase in your life, you might find this interesting.
