I watched a 5 hour sci-fi doc called #InSearchOfTomorrow (2022). It covers some of the roots of the genre, but focuses mostly on the 80s.
I like a lot of sci-fi, but this era is peak. My favorites lean into the more dark and dystopian. I've always really loved Alien, Blade Runner, Mad Max, Predator, RoboCop, and of course... Terminator. Robotics and tech have always fascinated me, and space stuff is really cool, too. Escape from NY and Mad Max 1 tend to get the sci-fi label, and they're great, but they're not very sci-fi other than that label of "Speculative Sci-Fi", but somehow, they fit right in.
Time-Travel is another great genre, though usually more fantastic in terms of not being feasible. Traveling faster than the speed of light? There's no sign of that happening any time soon, but it doesn't make movies like Back to the Future and Terminator any less fun.
I've never been on board with the Star Wars hype, but I will admit the first 3 movies are fun enough. They paved the way for space travel, aliens galore, robots, and planetary stuff to become common place in anything and everything after them, and it's literally about world-building, but they became pretty underwhelming after saturating the marketplace, especially recently.
Enough rambling on my end. What are your favorite sci-fi things? Movies or shows, specific eras, whatever. Lay it on me.

#PutHerInABikini is the latest AI prompt trend on X. You attach an image of someone and ask it to put her in a bikini and bam. It generates an image of said woman in such attire.
I'm a little peeved by it, because it seems to shrink every woman's breasts. Grok has a hard time believing certain women are as busty as they are, and sometimes when the breasts are excessively large, it generates a mutant.
AI is on a roll lately. Recently, you could ask Google "Is it 2027 next year?" and it would spit out this:
Be careful. These big tech corporations are going to take your job.

No, 2027 is not next year; 2027 is two years from now, as the current year (2026) is followed by 2027, and then 2028. Next year will be 2028, with 2027 being the year after that.
Be careful. These big tech corporations are going to take your job.

Let's talk about your DVD collections.
I'll be selling a bunch of mine soon. I can't justify having all these items taking up space in my room that I ignore forever, especially when streaming has made these collections completely obsolete. Obviously, I'll keep the classics and stuff I'll love forever, but I'm totally willing to part with a good chunk of it.
Some movies you love, and you gotta keep. Some movies you like, and that's not good enough anymore. It's weird how much the movie industry has changed, and how meaningless most of my collection has become. It's not like I watch the extras anyway, for 95% of them. And considering Hollywood is filled with so many elitist pieces of shit, I just don't have the appreciation for these actors and filmmakers that I once did.
What about you? Is your collection bloated, or are you efficient?

My life just fell apart at the start of this new year, so I'll be in a readjustment period for a while. Gotta get a new job and postpone my recent filmmaking plans and recoup some losses.
But hey, at least #Venezuela got liberated! I'm not being sarcastic, I think it's pretty epic.

Anybody got any #NewYears resolutions?
I have a big trash project in the works, but I won't spoil that yet. My other resolutions are generic garbage, like getting more exercise. You?

#SpinalTap2 (2025)
It's hard to make a follow-up to a cult film 40 years later, but I had a lot of good laughs out of this one. Rob Reiner was a loon, but separate the art from the artist because he made some good flicks.
Our trio is all pretty old now, having had a falling out with each other over the years. David makes music in small scale (having won a "Holdie" award), Nigel trades guitars for cheese, and Derek works in a glue museum. Suffice to say, they need to reform, and that's when themagicdisasters happen.
It's not a complex movie, but it's a lot of little things that make it fun. There's a fair amount of nostalgia going on and they'll obviously retread the greatest hits of the first movie, but I don't care. I still listen to same shit I did decades ago, so I'm happy to see these guys still going, even if they're old farts. A short and sweet movie. #RIP Rob.

I saw this on X:
What movie did Hollywood learn the exact wrong lesson from?
Die Hard worked because John McClane is vulnerable. He doubts himself, bleeds, breaks down, and feels the cost when people die. Studios fixated on Bruce Willis kicking ass and ignored the humanity, turning later action heroes into invincible machines.
